Preparing for a planned feature

Child photo preparation guide

For parents and legal guardians thinking ahead to photo personalization.

Approved limits for the planned uploader.

The future uploader will accept JPG or PNG images, at least 1,000 × 1,000 pixels and under 5 MB per image.

Both width and height must be at least 1,000 pixels; the file must be smaller than 5,000,000 bytes. These limits are approved for the future uploader, but are not enforced today because uploads are unavailable.

Keep the original image. It does not need to be square. Do not enlarge a small image to meet the minimum dimensions; enlarging it does not restore missing detail. Other formats, including HEIC, are not part of the approved accepted files.

A clear, front-facing portrait.

  • Use a head-and-shoulders portrait with the whole face and hair visible.
  • Keep the camera at eye level, with the child facing forward and eyes toward the camera.
  • Choose good natural light and a simple background.
  • A natural smile or relaxed neutral expression is suitable. There is no need for a posed or exaggerated expression.

Avoid unclear or obscured faces.

  • Side or profile views and steep camera angles from above or below.
  • Obscured faces, hats covering facial features, or sunglasses.
  • Filters, blurry images, screenshots, and group shots.

Face first, not full body.

One face-focused, head-and-shoulders portrait is the planned primary reference. A full-body picture does not replace it. No full-body picture or additional child photos are requested for this planned workflow.

When uploads become available.

The planned process is to select an image from your device, review the preview, and confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian and consent to submitting the photo. These are future steps, not controls available on this page.

  1. Select one existing JPG or PNG portrait from your phone, tablet or computer that meets the file limits above. There is no need to take extra photos.
  2. Review the selected image in a preview before submitting. Check that it is the correct child and the whole face and hair are visible; choose a different image or cancel if needed.
  3. Read the photo-use information and privacy notice, then explicitly confirm: “I am this child's parent or legal guardian and I consent to submitting this photo for story personalization.”
  4. Submit only after reviewing the preview and giving consent. Choosing a file is not consent to submit it.

The file limits are approved; the selection, preview and consent controls still need to be built and verified. Consent wording remains subject to the separate legal review, and photo handling and provider safeguards must be reviewed before uploads are enabled. A reference photo does not guarantee a particular likeness or illustration result.

Today, accounts, child profiles and mock text previews can be saved, but no photos or live AI are used. Read the draft privacy notice and its unresolved gaps before adding family details. This guide does not change that notice.
